The Renjo La pass can also be combined with the Everest Base Camp trek. This is one of the most challenging routes in the Everest region. The trekking route passes through Lukla, Namche Bazaar and Thame, the heartland of the Sherpa ethnic community.
We fly direct from Kathmandu to Lukla in about 45 minutes, and walk for 3–4hrs to reach Phakding, where we rest for the night. Next day we head to Namche and subsequently to Thame. Taking some days for acclimatisation, we head on to Lungden and reach the Gokyo valley via the Renjo La Pass (5360 m). We trek up to Gokyo Ri (5357 m), then cross via the Cho La to Dzongla (4830m) and Lobuche (4910m). After climbing Kala Patthar, we descend to Tengboche (3440m) and Namche. Finally we trek down to Lukla and fly back to Kathmandu.
One of the attractions of the Renjo La pass route is that the trekker can explore the culture, traditions and lifestyle of the world famous Sherpa ethnic community. Besides that, there are breathtaking views of several mountains: Lhotse (8511m), Nuptse (7864m), Cho Oyu (8201m), Makalu (8475m), Ama Dablam (6856m), Thamserku (6608m), Pumori (7145m) amongst others, and the Khumbu Icefall.
