Overview
The Everest Base Camp Trek is the most popular trail in the Everest region, as it offers a unique and unforgettable experience with awesome views of the world’s highest and most beautiful mountains, including Everest. The Everest Base Camp route has been famous since Sir Edmund Hilary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa made the first successful ascent in 1953.
The trek begins with a flight from Kathmandu to the mountain airstrip at Lukla, followed by around a 3hr walk to Phakding. Then we continue north up the Dudh Kosi valley to Namche Bazaar, where we spend one day for acclimatisation. We continue our trekking to Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar, with one day’s rest en route in Dingboche or Pheriche for further acclimatisation. One can spot various animals such as musk deer, leopard, jackal, mountain thar, and birds such as pheasant, long-tailed birds, vultures, while observing the beautiful blend of Sherpa culture.From Kala Patthar there are superb Himalayan views, including Everest (8848m), Lhotse (8516m), Nuptse (7855m), Pumori (7161m), Changtse (7550m), Lingtrin (6679m), Ama Dablam (6856m), Thamserku (6723m), Kangtega (6685m), Kusum Kanguru (6367m), Kongde (6011m), Khumbila (5761m), Tawache peak (6367m), Cholatse (6335m), Island Peak (6179m), Lobuche Peak (6145m), Pokalde (5806m) and Honku South (6119m). We return to Lukla and catch the flight to Kathmandu. Yatra Himalaya can arrange trekking in the Everest Base Camp area the whole year round, but the best times to visit are from the beginning of March to mid-May and from the beginning of September to mid-November.
