The Ruby Valley trek can be done in either direction, starting in Gorkha, Betrawati or Syabrubesi. Many begin in Syabrubesi, but altitude concerns need to be considered. The name of the trek relates to the mining of rubies in the Ankhu Khola region.
En route you cross Magne Goth pass (2936m), trek through the villages of Lapa Gaon, Shertang and Tipling. From Hindung a wild trail heads north to Dobra Danda near the lakes of Kalo Kund and Seto Kund, hidden below Ganesh IV (Pabil). The Ganesh Kunda is another high lake nearby. Our route also crosses the Pangsang La (3850m) to reach Somdang and Gatlang. It’s also possible to climb to the Singla Pass from Sertang and end the trek at Betrawati. There are views of Ganesh Himal II, IV, and V, Langtang Lirung (7225m) and Paldor, among others.
The Ruby Valley trek offers a really superb opportunity to enjoy magnificent views of a large number of Himalayan peaks, as well as seeing a variety of flora and fauna, observing Nepalese cultural traditions from the close quarters and intermingling with the local people. One of the main attractions in the area is the Tamang villages.
