The Kanchenjunga North Base Camp trek is also one of the most loved destinations among the tourists who come with Yatra Himalaya. Kanchenjunga (8586m), the third highest mountain in the world, is still the domain of unspoiled trekking trails and lies in the eastern part of Nepal. It was only opened to trekkers in 1988. The trek to Kanchenjunga North Base Camp offers an astonishing variety of landscapes, cultures and panoramic views of the giants of the Himalaya, including four of the highest mountains in the world: Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Kanchenjunga itself. Like the South Base Camp, the trek to Kanchenjunga North Base Camp offers a glorious panorama from the crest of the massive moraines.
The difference between the Kanchenjunga South Base Camp trek and the routes to the North Base Camp is that the North Base Camp has even more magnificent views of the snow-capped mountain peaks. In addition, the tranquil villages that dot the borders of Tibet and Sikkim lend a special flavour to the trek. Trekking to the North Base Camp, situated at 5000m, requires stamina and fitness as well as good acclimatisation.
The trek to Kanchenjunga North Base Camp begins with a direct flight from Kathmandu to Biratnagar, followed by a short flight to Suketar, where the walking starts. From Ghunsa the trail leads up to the moraine and wild terrain to Kambachen and Lhonak. Subsequently, after exploring the whole area around Pang Pema (Kanchenjunga North Base Camp), we descend to Tseram and return via Tortong and Mamankhe to Suketar for the flight to Kathmandu.
